How to Install Ceiling Speakers to an Amplifier

While many people like the idea of putting speakers in the ceiling to get sound to different rooms in a home or office, they often have no idea how to connect the speakers to the amplifier. Prewiring your home when building it (or building an extension) makes the connecting process much easier. Doing it after the fact is more complicated, but can still be done, especially if there is a crawl space for your ceiling.

    Instructions
1.Plan the location of your amplifier in the room and note where the ceiling speakers are located. Measure how far away this is and figure out how much wire you will need to put in the wall. You will need two runs of speaker wire for a stereo installation.

2.Run UL2 wire from where you plan to have the amplifier to the location of the speakers. During new construction, this is relatively simple; if it is not a new construction, you may need to drill through support beams to get the wire where you want it to go. Leave an extra coil of wire behind where the speakers are.

3.Cut the drywall behind where you want the amplifier to go and install the wall mount speaker terminals, attaching the UL2 speaker wire to the appropriate color-coded terminals on the inside of the wall mount terminal before sealing it in place.

4.Pull out the ceiling speakers from their brackets and connect the red wire and black wire to the color-coded terminals on the ceiling speakers.

5.Run regular speaker wire from the wall-mount speaker terminals to the speaker terminals on the amplifier, matching the color of the wire to the color of the terminals on each end.
